Udvar-Hazy Center Air & Space Museum

Loudoun County is a great place to live, and part of that appeal is the close proximity to attractions in surrounding counties, like Fairfax,  and Washington, DC .  So, here’s a great “thing to do” just across the Loudoun County line in Fairfax County:  The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center of the National Air & Space Museum.   The Udvar-Hazy Center is located a few miles south of Washington Dulles International Airport.    An annex of the National Air & Space Museum’s main location in Washington, the Udvar-Hazy Center “was named in honor of its major donor, and features the large Boeing Aviation Hangar in which aircraft are displayed on three levels. Visitors can walk among aircraft and small artifacts in display cases located on the floor, and view aircraft hanging from the arched ceiling on elevated skywalks” [from the Udvar-Hazy website].  Among the acres of vintage aircraft on-display are the Enola Gay, one of the supersonic Concord Airplanes and the Space Shuttle Enterprise.  The Center also boasts an IMAX theater which sometimes hosts first run Hollywood movies in addition to the traditional IMAX movies.  While there, don’t miss the 360-degree view,  including Dulles Airport, from the observation tower.  Admission to the museum is free but expect to pay $15 per car for parking.  Located at 14390 Air & Space Museum Parkway, Chantilly, VA 20151
